Why is it so important to do a "Proof of Concept (PoC)" before selecting a Physical Identity and Access Management (PIAM) System?
At ID-ware, we take the sustainability aspect of customer relationships as our top priority. In our opinion, this can only be achieved through complete customer satisfaction. To ensure this, we start proactively with our preliminary tasks as per customer-defined solution requirements and we do this even before the start of the joint project. We do this because it is difficult for a project to be completed without making sure in advance, that there exists a general fit between the solutions offered by ID-ware and the customer-specific requirements. We believe that if the customer is fully convinced about the value addition of the PIAM System then the implementation of the associated project will also be successful. We understand that for our customers it’s very important to minimize the risks while selecting their future PIAM system. Therefore, we believe that getting to know the future system, as well as initial feedback from the relevant stakeholders, are essential decision criteria.
We strongly believe that there is no better way than carrying out Hand in Hand PoC to verify all this.
What is a Proof of Concept (PoC) from ID-ware's point of view?
To ensure the feasibility and viability of a PIAM project, we at ID-ware take PoC as a risk-minimizing measure for both parties. During this process, the capabilities of the product, its implementation, and project teams are verified as well as the solution requirements or concept are mutually validated at a very early stage. Ideally, this helps in the verification of the concept, and any challenges or necessary adjustments that need to be made are identified at an early stage.
Added Value of PoC for your PIAM Project
PoC helps in establishing the base for joint ventures, that is why its decisive value addition is quite apparent. This means that project-relevant decisions can be made that are not based on assumptions or requirements but have already been partially implemented and tested with the help of a "prototype".
Reduce the risk in your future PIAM Projects through:
- The possibility of relevant functional component’s demonstration in advance.
- Feasibility tests of the product against your requirements.
- Getting to know the future supplier, their teams, and their strengths.
Ideally, a user acceptance test (UAT) is carried out for the processes planned out in the PoC, and received feedback can be incorporated into the requirements list. This helps in general acceptance in the future too. Experience has shown that this is a key factor in the successful introduction of a new PIAM solution.
How PoC at ID-ware works:
In the first step, we record the requirements for the new PIAM solution in a workshop. In these workshops, the attendees are project stakeholders such as Corporate Security, IT, HR, Interface Partners, future system users, and our ID-ware PIAM consultants. During the workshop, customer processes are defined in terms of handling, security, the connection of relevant systems, etc. The necessary features of the ID-ware PIAM solution are considered during the concept development and selection of suitable processes and the respective application possibilities are considered.
Finally, the goal of the workshop is to define a mutually agreed number of processes (usually two to three) that are to be implemented in the future using the PIAM solution where prequalification offers the greatest added value. These requirements are then preconfigured as far as possible in a "prototype" by the PoC team.
This is followed by another experience-based workshop where the new solution is introduced to potential future users. They can try it out directly and provide feedback. Later, we have our test phase, and based on its results the further procedure is mutually agreed upon.
Time and Cost are key factors
Due to the reason that during PoC we concentrate on important processes, therefore later it takes only a few weeks before the practical use of these relevant partial aspects of the PIAM solution. Thus, a central added value is created within a short period, which makes it possible to test areas of the PIAM application in a model that corresponds as closely as possible to everyday work. At the same time, due to the fixed defined scope, the capital expenditure of the PoC remains manageable.
So, if your organization is about to decide to implement a PIAM system, come to ID-ware and take the chance with a PoC, which allows you to test our PIAM solutions and determine whether ID-ware fits your company and your organizational processes.
